About Ponderosa Pediatrics
Ponderosa Pediatrics is the Prescott area’s largest, most established children’s outpatient clinic. Since 1986, parents have trusted their children to our friendly, board certified physicians and certified pediatric nurse practitioners. In some cases, three generations have called Ponderosa Pediatrics “my doctor.”
Our modern, 8,660 square foot home at Centerpointe West just south of the Prescott Municipal Airport is centrally located and easily accessed from the intersection of US 89 & US 89A. We are the accessible pediatric clinic to Chino Valley, Paulden, and many parts of Prescott and Prescott Valley.
We are not your typical doctor’s office. Six days a week, our patients can be seen in the office. Same day appointments are the standard, with walk-in clinic hours five days a week. With Saturday and late appointments available, our patients don’t have to rely on lengthy and expensive trips to urgent care and emergency rooms when other doctors’ offices are closed. In addition, we are the only local pediatric practice to offer 24/7 phone triage staffed by registered nurses, trained and experienced in helping patients over the phone. A brief history
In 1984, Dr. James McCarver opened the Ponderosa Pediatric Clinic on Ruth Street in Prescott. The growing practice moved a year later to the 12th Place Medical Center. In 1986, Dr. James Mick joined the practice and was reunited with Dr. McCarver. They had worked together in Colorado earlier in their careers. Dr. Mick became a partner in 1986.
In 1992, Dr. Mick became the sole owner when Dr. McCarver moved to Phoenix and the Ponderosa Pediatric Clinic evolved into Ponderosa Pediatrics. That same year, Pediatric Nurse Practitioner Lee Howard came on board and has been a major part of the growth and success of Ponderosa Pediatrics ever since.
In the mid 1990’s, Ponderosa Pediatrics opened a second clinic in Prescott Valley. This proved an excellent move as today, more than 45% of our patients call Mayer, Prescott Valley and Dewey-Humboldt home.
In 2003, the Prescott office moved to a new location at the Crossings off Willow Creek Road. Also in 2003, Prescott native Dr. Matt Hinton joined the practice to serve the children of his home town.
In 2008, the growing practice consolidated and move to the current location, a new 8,000+ square foot state-of-the-art facility at Centerpointe West. The building was designed from the ground up with the specific and only purpose of serving the children living in the Quad-Cities. Centrally located in the heart of the communities served, it is an easy drive from most points in Prescott, Prescott Valley, Chino Valley, and Dewey-Humboldt.
A year later, Dr. Hinton became an owner of Ponderosa Pediatrics with Dr. Mick. Also in 2009, Pediatric Nurse Practitioners Michelle Copeland (January) and Jeanne Gibian (December) came on board.
